English description The Halberdier is a 36 foot motor sailer, brings with her all the highest standards of construction, joinery, finish and equipment that is associated with the phrase Moody built.
The design itself and the choice of motor–sailer reflects the demand for a quality yacht of good performance under both power and sail with the maximum of roomy accommodation.
These aims have been achieved – and please note that the dictionary defines a Halberdier as a dual purpose weapon – a combined spear and battleaxe.
EXTENSIVE overhaul and refit by present owner from 2006 until now.
The Halberdier 36 was designed for Moodys by Alan Hill, and was the first all-GRP yacht built by the yard.
A total of 29 were moulded by Marcon (Marine Construction Ltd., Plymouth), and finished by Moodys, between 1967 and 1973.
At that point Moodys stopped building the class, but mouldings were still available, and an unknown number of further boats were built, finished by other builders, over the next ten or fifteen years.
Despite the wheelhouse and motor sailer tag, the Halberdier is a genuine sailing yacht, with a classic long keel hull form and a powerful rig. Most of the photos here are of an immaculately restored and updated example - the only major change to the original specification being altering the aft cabin to provide a double berth.
